This article is a combination of thoughts taken from different sources and thoughts which I have perceived. Here I would be presenting some ways in which our minds have learnt the things and impact of those things in our life.
We keep on hearing the words like man must live for others; altruism is ideal etc.
Effect of such words: If we accept such words then we have to sacrifice many of our pleasures in order to please others. This is in contradiction to our desires. So later we realize that we are incapable of what we have accepted. We feel our selves obliged to preach what we can’t practice. This gives us a sense of guilt, of sin, of our own basic unworthiness. All these feelings let us down. We give up our personal value. Our soul gives up self respect.
We hear words like always keep laughing, always smile.
Effect of such words: Laughter is an instrument of human joy, but if we laugh at everything; it becomes our destruction. We don’t revere situations with giggle. We will just obey to anyone & sets no limits to our obedience. Anything goes, nothing is too serious.
Words from parents told as a mark of their care. Words from parents like don’t go near the fire, you will get burns. Don’t play with Knife, you will get cut. Don’t Jump from wall, you will get bruised.
Effect of such words: These words will have a strong impact. The negativity lying in those words (like burns, cut, and bruise) is strongly impressed in our minds. We doubt our capability more because we fear the negative underlying in any act and we set limits to our achieving capability. The limit which we set largely depends on how much we are exposed to such kind of words.
Words from society like respect to others, behave decently, etiquettes etc.
Effect of such words: All these characters have to be learnt by becoming mature rather than hearing the words from others at earlier stage. If we just hear those words and start following them, a sense of hesitancy, fear grows within us. We become hesitant to put our views forward because all such words make us more conscious and we tend to act in a way so as to impress or please others.
It is important to realize that some of the things which we have been learning over a period have to be unlearnt.
